were scaffold poles ever threaded?
Looks more like steam pipe to me.
How long is this thing?
Get the hacksaw out and cut it.

Never threaded, it is steam pipe screwed into a coupler which is welded onto scaffold pole. The OP want to be able to reassemble it later, so cutting is not an option.
