School's Out

Well, we did actually manage to do a bit of sledging & make a snowman before the glorious sunshine broke through while we huddled around the unlit candle to try to get some warmth back in our bodies.

They'll sleep well tonight, as will I . . . 'Cos I ache all over from bending over to roll snow & pulling sledges back up the hill & . . . .

Went out this morning, thick snow and blizzard. Feggin cowd.

Got to about Milton Keynes, not a flake, still cold but nowhere near as at home.

Got back tonight, still barely above zero, yet all of the snow has now gone AND everywhere is dry.

Very strange........

Stafford cleared of snow in about an hour this afternoon.

A strange weather prediction for our area. The BBC website is predicting a fall in temperature in the hour between 5pm and 6pm of 7 degrees, from zero to minus 7. That's happening whilst the sun is still out. I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like that. What sort of weather event could cause that?
(Very!) Cold front comes in under the warm air. Then you get a temperature inversion.
Then smog and any water vapour can rise (cloud) in the cold air until they hit the bottom of the warm air, and stop rising, forming a layer at the transition. That often has a higher albido (a whiteness) which reflects sunlight which stops the cold layer getting warmed up. Are you in a valley?
