Scottish independence

I have no idea if they will get the vote, but if they do and Boris is still in charge then I reckon it will be a YES

Saying that I don't know anyone who has changed their mind since 2014, and I can't see me ever voting for it. But Boris is seriously detested up here, even amongst tory voters.

I wonder how negotiations will turn out when the SNP understands it'll have to decide whether to keep the Royal family as a head of state, since the Crown unites England and Scotland. This isn't just about being ruled by Westminster.
If they do decide for independence will they also vote to become a Republic?

The Scottish Mrs is taking the right to hold a referendum to the Supreme Court. If they don't ok it she says she will regard the election results as one.
Our Supreme Court appears to be the same as the USA - judges selected by who ever is in power. Not sure for how long.

I think that they will keep the Queen as head of state, if they stated they would become a Republic it would probably knock a few percent of the leave vote, and the SNP have said the Monarchy will remain.

I suppose it's a dangerous thing to wish for, however part of me hopes the referendum is granted and then lost by the leave camp. Perhaps, even for the SNP, that will ensure this is firmly parked for at least a decade and hopefully a lot longer.

However as I said before, they're crafty with their 'if there's any material change ...' rhetoric because let's face it, in the world of politics, they could class many things as a material change. So even if they lose, it wouldn't surprise me in the least if 4-6 years later they start calling for another one.

What I find funny is the way they spout the 'on behalf of the Scottish people!' line. The polls show we're still ~ 50/50 on this, if anything some polls show a small majority against. Why therefore be so determined to try and push something through that ~ 50% don't want. I could understand this if polls showed even 60/40 in favour but they don't.

Yes I understand it's what they stand for, however given the country is not heavily in favour, the fact they want to push it through shows their true colours as far as I'm concerned.

Should they be given the vote? I say yes and then whatever the result, stfu, accept it and just get on with it. What do you say?
So you accept the principle that should circumstances change, then another vote is justified?

If so, well done (y)

But given that the last vote was only 8 years ago, is that long enough in your opinion to now not 'stfu'?

I only mention that because it's already 6 years since the brexit vote, so given another two years will you similarly be supporting another EU vote?

Is the 50/50 split between Highland and Lowland Scots?

No need. We won, you lost, get over it, racist.

As usual, ignorant and inconsistent...

You won nothing, we all lost...

It'll take another couple of years for you to realise that of course...

Oh and btw...

The racist is the person that looks at you in your own mirror

No last time around the queen would have remained the head of state

The Queen of Canada, the Queen of Australia and the Queen of Scotland, has never tried to force them to become a single nation ruled by Johnson.

All true; but looking ahead a few years after the Queen is dead - Long Live the King! - but will Scotland be so fond of King George VII, as Charlie intends to be known, or his son, King William V ?
The potential for a referendum on whether or not to keep the monarchy will be as divided as in Australia, no?
