Hi, we have a join in our kitchen worktop that has got damaged.

The joins are all glued together.

Is it possible to remove the clamps underneath, and somehow separate the damaged board from the rest, without causing damage to the other board?

I know it was joined with wood glue, and a bit of colourfill.

Thanks
Tim

If the damaged side is being replaced I would cut through that half an inch away from the join, remove that side completely then make lots of little cuts into the stump just short of the join (like a comb) then you should be able to pick off the bits by hand or with a screwdriver in the gaps.

I had a similar issue recently where I needed to remove edging which was screwed/glued to a worktop edge and this is the approach I ended up adopting to get the trim off undamaged (the section of worktop was being scrapped but I needed the edging for patching up).

As stated cut damaged section close to join, then remove good side and run router trimmer along edge to renew.

whilst the advice is spot on you need to remember the other half may also be damaged but not showing so make sure you allow for several inches off damage on the other half in your calculations

Thanks all,

The carpenter came by tonight, and managed to get a nice new edge by running a circular saw up the existing joint, then planing 2mm off - it now looks fine and ready to fit the replacement board to.

Thanks for the advice - all much appreciated :D
