Haven't used a shaver for some time
and when I did, they were in the main battery powered.

For whatever reason under the old british standards 2-pin and 3-pin plugs had different pin spacing and the shaver plug inherits the spacing from the 2 pin not the 3 pin.
Also modern 5A 3 pin sockets nowadays generally have earth pin operated shutters which would make it difficult to use a 2 pin plug even if you had one of the right spacing.
