Hi all,

I am looking to build a storage shed for the garden with a contemporary batten finish. I built a log store attached (dont judge my DIY ;)) in the same finish and intend to replicate.

I was wondering whats the best way to keep this fully water tight with this finish as I intend to store lawnmower/electric tools.

My idea was to build the frame and then wrap in black water proof membrane on the outside (intentionally suggesting the outside to hide all the framework) and then fix the contemporary battens on top of this in the same style as attached.

For the doors I would frame, wrap in membrane and finish in the same way.

My thinking is that it keeps the aesthetic whilst then fully keeping the elements out but I dont know if thats the most suitable or if there is a better way to do this.

It will be approx 2m wide so not going to be huge

Any thoughts/suggestions would be much appreciated

For horizontal cladding you need to fit a breathable membrane to the outside of the studs, then vertical battens, fix an edpm tape to the face of the battens then fit your cladding.

It provides additional protection to the battens and with cladding like this it hides them so you see the black tape not the battens.
