I'll try and answer/clarify the questions raised in your responses.
My Cu looks very much like this

Except that it does not have 2x Rcd's. Instead on the left side is the red main switch and then 6x Mcb's, then an RCD followed by 4 Mcb's.
The Garage feed is on the right of the Rcd (one of the 4 Mcb's) and the last Mcb is an unconnected 40a. I hope that makes sense.
For the shed I only require a single light and one double socket. The socket would be only for occasional use. Perhaps a battery charger, possibly an electric saw of some kind, plus I do want to add a small heater in the shed possibly a tube heater.
The consumer unit in the garage looks exactly like this

It has in fact a 6a and 16a Mcb with a 40a Rcd Sorry.
