Shed electrics

What is the switch with the neon in img 1773 ?
Thats where I connected the armoured cable in my outhouse to the consumer unit. An electrician was present to view this much in my plan before I did any of it

Taylortwocities, based on your diagram, could the feed from the house be a spur off an internal socket?
No. when I flick the downstairs sockets off on the main house consumer unit, the power to the shed is killed. Its definitely wired into the main house consumer unit

Lucas, I was asking him if the shed COULD be connected to the house that way- I get that yours isn't.

I am getting really confused here.
You have a cable coming out of the house consumer unit into an FCU. That is the one with the neon in the pic with the trunking and the labels.. is that correct?

From the FCU there is a bit of T&E that goes into the wall. Does that connect to the SWA in the black outside box?

The SWA then goes to the shed where it is horribly connected to the shed fuse board.

So where does the switch with the neon img1773 come in to play????

Why would you do that?? the feed from the house is ALREADY connected as a spur from the socket circuit (inside your house consumer unit).

Important, and still unanswered, question:
What is the size of the SWA cable???

It will probably be embossed on the cable outer sheath. It'll say something like 1.5 x 3.

I'm sorry, but I can't believe no one has said this yet..
But based on your lack of knowledge I honestly believe it is best you get an electrician to sort this lot out for you.

Yes I might do this. I am lost with FCU, SWA, and any other abbreviations.

SWA = steel wire armoured cable
FCU = fused connection unit. That's the thing in your photo with a switch and a fuse in it!
T&E twin and earth cable

This is probably the best annotation method I've ever seen, and I'm not even joking!

As has been said, little confused about the wiring layout though. It looks as though the SWA goes straight into the CU, or is that something else?

I'm losing the will to live

Here's your picture

It clearly shows a cable coming from the consumer unit (CU), into a fused connection unit (FCU) and then there's a cable (T&E) that goes to the shed.

What makes you think that the SWA goes straight into the CU???
