Hey,
Need to move a window up about a 18" as a pitched roof will be meeting the wall where the window currently is.
Its a small window (~2' W * 4'H) on a gable end.
Whats the best way to do this?...and any tips etc be great....its a cavity block house.

My guess is...
1.Consaw out where the new higher lintels will go...pop them in.
2.Remove Window and blockwork above it that is no longer required.
3.Build upwards to new sill and place window in new position.

Let me know if that sounds right...any any tips about dust control inside the house be great...im thinking of building a frame of some sort with polythene around it for the inside.

Cheers,
Martin.

as far as window alterations are concerned, shifting the window head height upwards or making the aperture wider, is particularly difficult due to the lintel alterations.

make sure you have 150mm lintel end bearings and make good any cavity closers. if the masonry is returned at the reveals be sure to use d.p.c at the abutment.

as it's only a narrow window, there shouldn't be any need for propping.

by your description, you seem to have it sussed.

Cheers,
Actually one thing...My disk cutter is 12" blade.
How will i cut the verticals for the new lintels given they will only be ~100-150mm high?(i guess when i plunge the cutter in it is going to cut ~250mm by the time it gets to the other side of the block...will this be Ok?...just plaster it up?
Thanks,
Marty.

it is sometimes better to remove whole units, be they block or brick, and make good later, cutting the masonry units, prior to re-installation, where necessary.
