Hi All,

This is the only realistic place we can hang our shows and coats but I’m a little worried about it falling forwards. Any ideas on how I could stop that from happening.

Thanks

You need to brace it to the wall or ceiling with screws. Usually it would be done at the top, but I can't tell if there is a wooden joist or steel lintel you could get at above the window. If there is, you could screw vine eyes into it and use hooks or straps to attach the furniture.

An easier approach would be to drill into the wall beneath the window. Work out if it is solid plastered brick, or plasterboard with a gap behind it. This determines the kind of fixing you need. This will not be as strong but will be adequate for normal use. If you have wild animals or small children in the house you will need to prevent them climbing on it. It will withstand a kitten.

Do not try to support anything heavier than a photoframe on plasterboard alone.

Search u shaped or conduit clips on amazon and fix to skirting, search hinged clips if you need to remove regularly. You should find a suitable size.

Foxhole is right - it isn't going to topple. But if it were to, I doubt fixing it to the skirting board would make a blind bit of difference.

That thing aint falling forward trust me, by the time the shelves are loaded with shoes, boots, football / rugby boots, wellies, plus any of the usual random crap that seems to find it's way onto ours you have nothing to worry about.

I agree, it doesn't really need anything but if it gives you peace of mind, it won't need much. A single screw vertically into the reveal behind the cross bar and a black tie- wrap around the bar and screw would be enough. Or, if the window boards are solid, a similar idea just behind the side posts either side.

I think I would wedge a bit of timber up behind the window cill and screw into that assuming the cill behind the unit is similar to the one the left with a small gap behind.
