should disability scooters be banned

I was told that when the health authority issue an electric wheelchair to a person, that person has to sit a "test" in the electric wheelchair before they're allowed out and about on it. The problem with these disability scooters is that any old Joe Public can buy one and just jump in it and start mowing pedestrians and animals down.

I've seen an old dear about here bowling along in her scooter with her dog on an extending lead. What control does she have over either scooter or dog? The dog is away round the corner before she's got to it - one day it bumped into a dog coming in the opposite direction. They both got a fright and barked but at least that was all they did. What would she do if they started fighting?

The purchase of one of these scooters should only be allowed if the person using it sits a test on it. I'm fed up getting run over in Asda with the bloomin things.

I was doing some relamping in a local community center.

We were using some 4 meter tall steps, which my apprentice was up, swapping lamps.

An old chap came in to the center in his scooter, and despite pleas from myself and the center caretaker, he plowed into the bright yellow steps.

Me and the caretaker managed to hold the steps upright while my apprentice moved perhaps the quickest I have ever seen him do anything.

As the steps crashed down in front of him, he moaned something about "what is going on?" and "I want to get through that door where those fallen over steps are"

My appo was VERY lucky not to be badly hurt.

Er, Steve, some people become obese because of illness.
