"Show them where it hurts, abstain from spending your money in their shops and economies, and invest in White-owned businesses.”

Is this the way to go about things?

It has a long history.

You see it a lot from Civil rights groups, as well as those that oppose them (uncivil rights?).

Some just call it capitalism.

That's an interesting idea you're circulating.

As an investor, do you invest in things that you expect to make a profit? Or are you in fact using the word "invest" in a novel way that doesn't mean "invest" and you are a racist campaigner hoping to increase inequality at your own expense?

I'm not sure John my guess is it most certainly racist yet it is investing in your own....

I try to buy locally to support businesses that in turn may invest in my business. Or at least someone down the line will.

Interesting read IT. The particular comments that struck me was the effect that it could have on the black people they were trying to help. Sanctions are sometime applied just to make some leader or the other unpopular. Iraq was an example. The oil embargo will have had some effect on S Africa. Disinvestment too. Good idea really? Tricky. It removes jobs if effective so what do the people effected do?

:) I listened to this, S Africa, on the news when it was happening. The krugerrand was an interesting development. Gold and diamonds they have. De Beers was started by Rhodes. That sort of thing may well influence political opinion especially in the UK and USA but their comments on the effects on populations are correct.

Some friends lived there and came back about 25 years ago and more recent but about 15 years ago some one I know married a white S African. Comments from both made me wonder how much things have really changed.
