You might well have just bought yourself some time if the diaphragm in your diverter valve is failing (assuming it uses one - I am not familiar with them). Here's hoping there isn't a follow-up post to say 'its gone again'...
You are probably correct, its bought me a bit more time tho! I know I'm running on borrowed time with the boiler, however I got a competitive quote from the original plumber too. I was anticipating having to spend over £2K which I thought was rather high, I think it will be between £12-1500 quid instead...here's hoping!
