Better than the one i did last week. Guys missus had turned the boiler stat down and he hadnt noticed. Couldnt work out why he had luke warm HW. £164 for me to turn up stat

I went to repair a boiler and found that his suitcase stored by the boiler had moved down and turned off the switched fused spur.

Feeling generous I only charged him £55 for a service rather than £84 for a repair.

Normally I would not have charged him anything but I had specifically asked him if it was turned on at the switched spur and he answered yes without bothering to check. Someone that cocky deserves to pay. I spend extra time on the phone free to "fix" about 20% of the telephone calls we get without a visit ( usually resetting overloads or repressurising! )

Thanks for all the replies, turns out it was the fan!
Apparently cutting the gas off. Couple of squirts of WD40 sorted it.
Mother in law now has price for new fan, new boiler and hot water.

Unfortunately, I seem to know the boilers quite well as a result of repairing some for friends or people I have somehow felt sorry for.
The thermocouple output goes through a normally made contact behind the red button and opening that releases the magnetovalve.

You should NEVER use WD40 on a boiler fan as the propellant is flamable.

In any case the lubricant is too wet and rarely lasts very long.

Far better to use car engine oil as its designed for operation at elevated temperatures.

Sorry for the duff gen. Was not WD40, just a normal lube. Probably a non flammable one as the house is still standing.
