He was given 3k and free lodging in one of those brand new b&b hostels for the next 5 years. Why wouldn't he go?
If that's the new deal for all these failed asylum seekers i don't see why it wouldn't prevent more of 'em trying their luck. It sounds better than getting into the UK where a scuzzy doss in a mould ridden hovel awaits on minimum benefits and a minimum wage delivery job is their best shot.
UK gives you £3000 to go to Rwanda.

Cost of flight from Rwanda to UK to claim asylum: Edit: £264

and how will he get on that flight, and get through security? The fine for the airline is £2k per person.

Maybe a deal can be done with Japan?

As the declining population continues to impact Japan’s society and economy, the number of vacant houses has topped nine million – enough to accommodate the entire population of Australia at three people per dwelling. Government figures released on Tuesday show the number of empty houses, known as akiya, as of October 2023 was up by more than half a million since the previous survey in 2018. That total figure of vacant homes represents nearly 14% of all houses in Japan, though the real number could be higher. The Nomura Research Institute estimates there are nearly 11m akiya and that they could account for more than 30% of houses within a decade.

A beach house should suit them.

But you can’t help thinking why would he think he’d have a chance in the U.K. after pretty much settling in other safe countries.
Language, prospects and education probably figures in the case of economic types. Maybe the old name Great Britain where ;) Mercator projection makes it comparatively larger than it is compared with other countries. Relatives definitely figure. The web makes the world a rather small place.

We get interviews of people who have come, been accepted and are working etc. Also some arrivals. In the past we have had documentaries about where they come from particularly poor tough hard places to live. The smugglers tell them what a wonderful place the UK is.

One interesting factor is being smuggled isn't what could be called cheap. A crazy factor cropped up yesterday. Your in NI and want to go to Dublin, Bus £20, smuggler £1200. Cheapest option for all is walk as near as possible. Then it gets more expensive. The boats - well it's the only way some can get here. Rwanda - seems people will be processed there anyway.

The UK problem with accepting some - economy factors. A more Europe wide problem - all people from an area can't be handled. There are too many of them. Even too many to absorb. Despite this the UK will always accepts them from certain areas.

The other aspect is the subject and the news augmented by Brexit propaganda. Some people come up with all sorts of ideas without a shred of evidence. They basically assume that the gov can't process them correctly when they do. There are human rights laws which means there has always been specialists around and charities to back them. Processing rates. Hard to be sure but it looks like these did achieve their objective bringing rates down so things were backed off. Maybe too far. If rates increase the gov needs to play catch up. That takes time so best to overdo it but that costs money. Appeals - speed the process up. More human rights lawyers - well there is more work around. More work around always increases jobs - the main problem is finding the right people to fill them.

Quick edit - was the economy better when processing bought rates down. Yes it was. Targets need to shift as a result.

it's well known that a student study visa is a nice easy way to get to the UK and then claim asylum once here. There are even allegations that certain universities are assisting with the gaming of the system, by having very low academic requirements for overseas students who pay high fees to come to the UK.
What did brexiteers expect to happen after vote?

Of course the fact that the number of EU students has halved was the obvious result from the start!

Anyone with any sense could see that before the referendum ;)

Universities are businesses so they now get their students from elsewhere in the world

And a drop in the number of foreign students especially in universities will cause funding problems for our own students. This has been in the news of late. Conditions
You can apply for a Student visa to study in the UK if you’re 16 or over and you:

Healthcare surcharge

Your partner and child must each have a certain amount of money available to them. This is in addition to the money you must have to support yourself.
How much money they need depends on where you will be studying. They must have either:

  • £845 a month (for up to 9 months) for courses in London
  • £680 a month (for up to 9 months) for courses outside London
If you’re applying at the same time as your partner or child (you’re applying together as a family), you’ll need to prove you have both money to pay for your course and to support yourself and additional money for each of them.

They suggest obtaining a 6month visa 1st to sort this area out here rather than from abroad.

Oh and by the way. Once qualified a student of this type may find they can choose to stay. Maybe just to get work experiences or permanently.

Its got to be one of the hardest places for any illegal immigrant in the civilised world to claim asylum - Just over 300 successfully last year and only around 200 the previous year.

That was for a voluntary flight, not a forced deportation...

The tories are getting desperate now!

And how long do you think that £3k will remain in his/her hands?

Then they need to manage them better.

Clearly they haven't ordered them to do anything. The Government need to get a grip...
How about manage them much better and get an even firmer grip?

If only we had the detail to your cunning plan.
