Silicone around bathroom wash basin

Thanks for the advice lostinthelight. Yes, I discovered I need to use the flat side opposite to the bevelled. Thanks for that link, I'll have a read. I put a load of HG Mould remover on the area, left it 30 minutes and rinsed it off and dried it. I've got 70% Isoproply Alcohol as my final step in cleaning.

Just to clarify, 'bottom of the joint' I take that to mean just enough to fill the narrow gap? To be honest, it's so very narrow, I'm not sure I can fill it and have it flush with the basin without smoothing it. Hmm, or I guess the first nozzle cut will have to be incredibly small.

Hello guys. I'm new to re-doing silicone, never used a silicone gun in my life. I spent some time yesterday removing clear silicone from my very small bathroom wash basin. Hard work and none of it came off in one piece, very bitty. And then I put No Nonsense sealant remover on which helped me get rid of residue on the tiles and basin.

Make sure you get every bit of the sealant remove of the surfaces - even where you can't see it. Wash it out absolutely throughly - the slightest trace of remover will eventually cause you problems.
You have tiles and ceramics so easier to make sure the remove is fully removed - Nowadays if if not an impervious material I never user use remover just work at cutting and abrading it until all he silicon has been removed

Thanks for your reply wgt52, the wall seems very clean now. Last night I put HG mould spray on, I'm just waiting a bit longer for that to completely dry behind the basin down in the tiny joint gap, I could do with a hairdryer to speed it up. Then I'm putting Iso Alcohol on it which should completely degrease the area.

Well it's about a 1.5mm gap, like credit card width, very tiny to fit any bead in there.


And then the profiling tool edge is 10mm at 45 degrees, and the horizontal distance between the profile edge and wall must be similar or maybe a bit less.


Maybe I should just go for it at a 10mm nozzle cut?

Yes go for it then, have pieces of toilet roll torn off ready to keep wiping the spatula of any build up and a bin to throw them in after cos it can get messy..good luck

Well, after a little practise inside a cardboard box and getting used to it, I finally did the basin.

I had to pump some more over what I'd done as there wasn't enough in places, it takes some practise feeling how hard to push the trigger.

Struggled on the end bits and sides and I didn't get as much silicone there as I did the sides with my finger.

Well, here it is. *puts hand over face from embarrassment *. It's a bit rough lol. I probably need to do it again, or go over bits, or is it ok?
I couldn't avoid the silicone shaping itself into that grout line.
