Siliconing finger or tool

I use various tools, finger and anti bacteria wipes and washing up liquid.

Most of the time is good. I do make 5he odd cock up.

I saw someone's new build and it looked like they had done the silicone with their ELBOW !
Yes, I stayed at a holiday let last year that was a new build. The silicone was noticeable for all the wrong reasons!

Just to add, that if you do this, you must pull the tape of when the silicon is still wet.

True and if the build up where it meets the tape is too thick, you then need to try to smooth it again.

I do, from time to time, use tape, but whenever possible I still use a profiling tool to ensure that the build up on the tape is minimal.

Tool, tool, tool

That finish is rubbish.
He can't control the silicone gun in the first place, so all the rest is a mess.
I use silicone tools, unless is something hidden.

Tool! every time even the cheapest one from B&Q is better than your finger.

Yes I'm very clever but, what do you mean by reactions?
Occasionally a ne'er-do-well may use a second (third, etc...) account to add a 'reaction' - a thanks - to a post.
This artificially inflates the posters reaction score on the forum.
@jurassic sparkk seems to think something is up, which is an interesting observation, given past form! ;)

I had my quartz worktop fitted today. The fitter used a tool to apply the silicon for the upstands. And then finished off with a wet finger.

The old sticking wet finger. Used to be a finger of fun. Now just a way of earning a crust.

I genuinely think good advice attracts attention.
Coupled with my being funny, I believe deserves gratitude.

I never use tape. You need to start with a nozzle cut to the correct size and angle and then apply an even bead of silicone before you finish it off with a tool and a wet finger.

If you have a massive bead of unevenly applied silicone then no amount of tooling it about is going to achieve a good result.

I do that from time to time. The tool helps to ensure a constant bead, the finger helps to bed it down and smooth it, especially in 3 way corners.
