I'm looking to add the single channel hive reciever to my combi (ideal mini c28) currently no external thermostat.

Looking at the manual its:

Power supply terminal block:
Live to hive live
Neutral to hive neutral
Earth to hive earth

External controls terminal block:
Common to hive 1
NO switch to hive 3

Problem is I can't work out which of the wires on the external controls block is common & which is NO... I think 1 is common & 3 is switch, but some chap on another forum said in his case the red wire was common.

Any way to work this out? 1 2 3 in the manual isn't helping me.

Boiler manual, hive reciever, and photo of the external controls block attached.

Thanks a lot

It doesn't matter which way around they are connected! :)
Just think as the Hive as a switch - it simply connects the two wires together.
You take the loop of wire away, and instead, the hive joins those two terminals together.

Just to note, the circuit diagram suggests the external stat terminals are switching neutrals.
This is unusual, most boilers switch lives.
In this case, the stat must have 'volt free' switching; the single channel Hive does, but some other stats don't.
It may lead to a bang for the unwary!
