Skiing

DIYisfun, if your girlfriend doesn't want to go ski-ing with you I'll come instead

OK then my advice is to spend at least 10 minutes, 3 or 4 times a day pointing your toes inwards together and getting yoursef into a squatting position and back up again as quickly as possible. This is the classic 'snow plough' that your instructor will yell at you over and over again. Practice before you go and it won't make your inner thighs ache as much when you get on the slopes

Oh yeah and lovely thick, thermal socks and some good ski goggles are a must. Apart from that - enjoy yourself

If you need to buy ski clothing then try here for a well priced range that is also lightweight  http://www.tchibo.co.uk/is-bin/INTE...rametricSearch-Start?search_query_keyword=ski

 Sorrrrrrrrrrryyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy  I've never been ski-ing with him but apparently he's quite good. He used to ski for an army team a few years back. Perhaps he could go with you

I only know one skiing-related joke and am surprised no-one has told it yet!

Thanks for all your replies. I will def be taking long johns, thermal socks the works as I hate cold weather (yet I am going skiing). I have water skied before and initially found that postion (squating) very weird. My "boss" has told me I am going to be knackered etc and I should go to gym with her etc to get into shape for it. No says I - I am fit. Last night went to hockey and was reminded why smoking is bad for you - wish I had taken her up on that offer! Someone said not to go in a whole class at ski school - rather go one on one as you will learn more? Got a bet on with the boss that I won't fall as much as me (this includes snowboarding which we will try) - better start saving up. ;)

you probably will do, just have more than one lesson! its an investment for future holidays. Dont forget the sun cream

Sun cream? Serious? Take it the sun reflects off the snow? At least I will be brown when I get back!

Yup, Thermo is right and tbh you probably won't need loads of thermals - the snow isn't really that cold - it's 'different' snow to what we have here. It's more powdery and you can't make snowballs with it

Yes, if the weather is good, you will need sun block, and you won't be very cold. If you try snowboarding as well then you will fall over a lot. Oh one other tip, don't buy expensive shades, you'll probably break a couple of pairs in your almost inevitable falls. :D

Tried boarding in Canada, I could get the hang of it, but on powered it was great. Probably if you have never skiied boarding is easier to learn, you cant cross your feet & you wear comfortable boots.

Good Tips.

Book a resort thats near to a good hospital.

Before going purchase the very best accident insurance.

Take twice the amount of cash you think you need.

Never, never ski and drink alcohol.

BE HAPPY
