True. But it seems that that company just rebrands generic tools. So potentially you will get the same Challenge tool from Argos with a Skil logo on it.

Let's face it, Skil have hardly been a quality brand for many years now. The only tools they offer have been in production for a long time and there has been little investment in new product since the 1980s
 
The quality has been consistently good, at the market point they were sold at.

I have had their random orbit sander for 10 years, and I don't think that it was widely known at the time, but it had the widest orbit than all of the similar and "better" sanders, and thus the best performance for removing stuff. But was less than half the price of the main brands. I know people with the circular saws who swear by them, not at them.

The tools were solid and they worked, and thats all that matters. It might now just be a branding exercise for any crap.

This might be true in the UK but only because of fierce competition from other brands.

The sentiment doesn't ring true in America, and I'm sure other parts of Europe.
