Hi

What type of plaster for skimming new tile backer boards in bathroom. Instructions say boards can be tiled on directly or plastered. No primer needed.

Cheers

OP,
There's no need to skim backer boards for tiling. Its best to tile on to the raw backer board surface.
No need for any priming either.

Using 12mm insulated tile backer boards all round for insulation purposes too.

Follow board spec on data sheet online.
Boards like abacus elements board you can skim straight on.
Other boards need sealing as really dry with Sbr or other sealer.

It's all in the data sheet

Thanks. Yes I can plaster straight on. Just wondered the best type of plaster

OP,
If you skim backer board, and then use a large tile there's a chance of the tile moving or even coming off the wall. A few mm's of skim are an unreliable background esp. on wet walls constantly exposed to hot water.

No tiles are going on skimmed backer boards. These will be seperate boards for the tiles. All 4 walls will be tile backer boarded (with insulation) but only shower area will be tiled (not skimmed)
