Hey

I am looking to replace my Danfoss TPOne-M that controls the central heating and water with something smarter.
I tried this ~4 years ago with the Tado system, but had to send it back as it wasn't compatible with my setup at that time.

So, I am looking to see if there are people smarter than me that can advise on what my options are?

Here is a wiring image that goes to my Ideal H18 boiler.

Is it possible? What options do I have - TIA!

I have just searched my emails, it was 5 years ago (October 2019) - how time flies

here is what they said (from Tado)

As my colleague mentioned TPOne-M thermostat is not compatible with the Extension Kit as there is no link (bridge wire) between terminals L and COM of its back plate (or at least it is not visible). Could you please check if such a link wire is present in the TPOne-M thermostat? If not, it is not compatible.

The other TPOne-B thermostat is compatible. Please log back in to the web app and follow the installation flow.

as for what has changed - as the upstairs thermostat (just master bedroom, only) was compatible I replaced it with a Netatmo smart thermostat, which works well

I now want to 'smarten' up the primary thermostat that control the CH/HW

Nothing has changed to the system, itself

Depends on what you want, fwiw, I think Tado would have worked. Plenty of "smart" thermostats available.
Tell me more!
I am aware that lots of smart thermostats are available, I just want to be able to control my hot water and heating from an app - possibly integrate into Home Assistant

I spent many weeks with Tado support in 2019 trying tot get it to work, in the end they said my setup wasn’t supported- that is why I am her. I’m asking if anyone knows why my wiring is special or how I can get it working
Any advice would be appreciated

Your TP One-M has been connected up with a grey wire into the COM terminal, that provides a switched live to the black wire on the NO1 terminal.
The common of the NO2 terminal, is internally connected to L.

This is a slightly unusual arrangement, as most dual channel programmers would have both commons supplied directly from the L.
This is the case with the Tado extension box - and the reason why Tado said it was incompatible (they were asking if you could confirm where the grey wire came from).

The next step is down to you, many smart stats are compatible with your system, even without knowing where the grey wire comes from.
I.e. dual zone stats that have volt free (or dry) contacts, such as Nest, or even the Tado V3+.
Alternatively, other stats could be installed with connections made at the wiring centre - you mention another stat, does that mean you have a dual zone and Hot water system?
I'm afraid Netatmo don't seem to provide a stat that controls a hot water channel, but even then, you could have a basic HW timer and have another Netatmo, purely for the other heating zone.
The choice is yours!

Thank you for your response!
- you mention another stat, does that mean you have a dual zone and Hot water system?
Yes, the second zone is for the master bedroom only. Less wires were on this one and the Netatmo works a treat.

The downstairs stat is CH + HW - I would like to control both with a smart stat.

Are you saying a Nest could do this? Would wiring changes be required?

Are you saying a Nest could do this?
Yes, or a Tado V3+, or a Heatmiser neoHub HW, or a Honeywell Home T6R-HW, or many others,
I.e. dual zone stats that have volt free (or dry) contacts

Would wiring changes be required?
If any of these controls were to be mounted in place of the TP One-M, the wires would simply need to be placed into the correct terminals on the new receiver (plus adding a short link wire).
