Hi,

We recently moved into a new house and the circular element of the main oven of our the smeg range cooker (C92DX8) stopped working. I thought this might simply be a quick element replacement job and ordered a new one.

On removal of the element I noticed that one of the ends of the element the wires connect to had corroded. The connector on the wire from the back of the oven to the element has also fully corroded/melted, see pictures. I've got the new element, and looks like I'll also need to replace the wire/connector as well.

The problem is I don't know how to repair the wire/connector, or even what to search for to learn how to repair it. I assume this is not a smeg oven specific part and is just a generic high temperature resistant wire for ovens? Or is the right option just to buy a whole new wire harness, something from here?

Thanks so much for your help.

I realise now that I could simply strip the old wire and put a new spade clip on. I have a standard pack of them I bought a screwfix which fit, would that be suitable for an oven? Here's the existing one for context.

Yes as long as you can fit the new one properly it should be fine just to replace the connector. You should be able to tell the extent of any damage to the wires when you strip them back and go back to unburnt conductor. Ensure the new one is a nice tight fit to the terminal of the new element.
