My header tank has a build up of some sort of fungi (A white layer that floats on the surface). Iv'e tried draining it off flushing the system and cleaning out the tank but it just comes back. At £40 a pop I don't want to keep replacing the furnox every each time I do this. Any ideas?

Fernox AF10 added to the F&E tank after refilling the system is supposed to kill and prevent it. You do not have to drain the system, just bale out and clean the tank.

You need to have a cover on it to keep it clean, and check that there is no leak causing fresh water to top up the tank and dilute the chemical, or pumping over or overflow.

I have heard of Bleach being used but don't know if this causes any other problems.

Thanks mate. No one at any of the local plumbing & heating suppliers seemed to have any ideas.
