Smoke/Weed Smell Coming Through Chimney Breast

I just had a thought, if you still have trouble with the smell coming through. How about a positive ventilation unit that forces fresh air from another part of the house and the air in the house escapes from places like the trickle vents on the windows, fireplace, floorboard cracks, and particularly wherever the smell is coming from will be pushed back by the fresh air.
That sounds like it might work. What would be involved?

The joists run parallel to the party wall as opposed to into it.
I had a chimney sweep inspect the room, he suggested that the smell was coming in through the flue and that due to the age of the houses (approx 130 years old) the mortar would have perished in a few places.
I spoke to the neighbours and the don't have any gas appliances venting carbon monoxide at least. They also allowed me to attempt to seal up the massive gaping hole in their living room chimney where an old gas fire had been removed. They said that's where they do most of their smoking.
Unfortunately, this seems to have done very little and the bedroom still smells of cigs.
As it stands my options seem to be:
Alternatively, I could setup a fan to draw air from the room outside but I'd be worried that this would pull more cigarette smoke into the room.

- Contact Environmental Health, start a war with my neighbours who probably couldn't care less about the council or the fines they'll attempt to impose if they fail to respond. This could take years.
- Attempt to seal the room from my side, which may or may not fix the problem. I can either rip out my fitted wardrobes and lift the floorboards or lay some carpet/underlay and hope that works.
- Attempt to seal the room from the neighbours' side, which will be a nightmare having been into their house and seen the state of general mess/disrepair.
- Some form of positive venitliation. I've got an air purifier running in the room (seems to help a little but too bright/noisy to sleep with) and opening the windows fixes the issue but obviously isn't ideal in winter.

not nearly as strong as skunk - here’s another idea..... tell them only fannys smoke weed. Tough guys shoot up brown. Give them a load of free samples you’ve bought off the 18 plate BMW man, get them hooked on that and hey presto, no more weed smell and they’ll soon be out on the streets selling their ar5es for the next fix.

So is that how you’re paying for all your renovations? In that case, can you drop round an ounce of purple haze, 4 grams of Bolivian marching powder, 5 uppers, 3 downers, a few wraps of horse and my usual of angel dust..... the good stuff - not cut to crap.
