Socialism

We are rapidly creating a generation, many of whom are happy to sit around doing nothing, expecting the Earth from life and govt

I think that is only true for quite a small minority. There is no doubt that there is a small sector of society that arent in the work system. But what they cost must be far less than those that live in tax havens or the Amazons that avoid corp tax. Its a diversion tactic to blame the poor.

The benefit system and the PIP /universal credit assessments are now catching the vulnerable people in society. There are some appalling stories.

There are those that are actively deciding not to work when they can and live off benefits. Which we need to ascertain how many. But then you need to balance that with corporate benefits and welfare which we provide. So there are two groups that are benefiting.

How much do you claim back from that?

That's what he pays after allowable deductions mate. People think that us S/E types get away with murder. One of my mates thought the tax man payed for my van??? In reality I get a few bob depreciation over a few years.
Hears a thought. S/E guy makes 2k a week working hard and taking responsibility for his "business". He's VAT reg so gets VAT back on his mats but pays 20% on his profit. His work is labour intensive in relation material cost. He pays 40% tax on some of his profit. He pays about 10% NI (it varies at different levels and there are thresholds) then he pays std rate tax on a lot of his earnings. If you're a sole trader your profit is essentially your "wage".
This guy can end up paying nigh on 50% tax in real terms.

So how much do you claim back from the 10k?
I claim nothing back. My tax is worked out based upon my profit. My profit is worked out after deductions such as...
Use of home 390
Use of telephone 209
Out of pocket expenses 93
Additional clothing 117
Additional motor expenses 1867
Additional fuel 585
Laundry costs 115
Postage and stationary 218
