"A legacy of poor decisions" by the UK before and during the pandemic led to one of the worst death rates in the world, scientists have said."

"the prime minister had been given scientific advice to impose lockdowns and "pushed that back" - not only in March but again in September and December."

"The government also failed to create a working contact-tracing system, did not introduce effective health controls at the borders and still did not offer "proper sick pay"

And yet according to borisconi, who remember promised to be 'led by the science'...

"We truly did everything we could."

So who is lying?

In the interests of fairness/parity, should there not be a third, fourth and fifth poll option along the lines of both, neither and undecided/unsure?

Don’t be daft. Ellie just wants an answer, any answer, as long as it can show the prime minister of the prime ministers advisors in a bad light. I note he won’t answer the question as to whether his two brilliant medic sons have had the jab that he is too frightened to have though. I wonder why?

It's about balancing, if he done exactly as the scientists said we would have no economy.

So there had to be a compromise..

I'm not saying mistakes haven't been made, imo the borders should have been shut instantly, no one gets in or out unless they have a negative test cert.

But at the end of the day, we are where we are

This was reported on R5L last night.
While I am not defending the government, I do think there is a degree of bollogs in the figures and, therefore, in "the death rate".

I come to that conclusion from the report last night, where it was stated that the UK death rate was far in excess of comparable countries which have shedloads of cases but also have:

- greater proportions of "at risk" groups (BAME, obese, diabetic, etc)
- equivalent age demographics, if not greater numbers of older people,
- poorer general healthcare provision,

I therefore conclude that UK has a reportedly-higher death rate in part because UK counts more deaths as Covid than is actually the case; that "better-performing" countries count fewer deaths as Covid than is actually the case, or somewhere between the two.

I see a couple of the usual suspects are hijacking yet another topic with personal attacks...

But it's a simple question of one or the other...

Because one side or the other is lying.

Is that too tricky a question to ask of some people?
Or are they simply cowardly 'fence sitters', too afraid to voice their opinion?

PS. mottie well knows that my reply to his repeated question is being 'moderated' for whatever reason...
How many times have you repeated the same thing, mottie?

So there had to be a compromise..

Maybe the UK goverment should use the same brutal methods of lockdown that China uses

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-china-55576961

In a sign of just how seriously the authorities see the situation, even the postal service in and out of Shijiazhuang has been suspended for three days. And the restrictions are being tightly enforced - police were photographed in protective hazmat suits guarding the entrance to an expressway.

But then China has an advantage in that it's internal economy is controlled by the government and not by market forces inside the country.

The population are conditioned from birth to accept and obey without question what ever instructions the Chinese government hands out.

So a life has an associated valuation?

That's what the science was telling borisconi, but he chose to ignore that and then claims "We truly did everything we could."

You obviously disagree with him, so someone is obviously lying!

But at the end of the day, we are where we are
But not where we could have been!

borisconi is already talking about questions only being asked after it is all over, and no doubt when he is long gone...

Another multi million pound inquiry lasting many years with the usual 'no-one is to blame' but 'lessons will be learned' outcome...

The conclusion of said inquiry has already been written!

Of course if anyone thinks the scientists have been lying then they are free to express their opinion as well.

Ah, the old "we lost the election, therefore the election must have been rigged" routine.

Look at the Excess Death figures.

Could Boris have listened to the Science
Also to the economics
His back benchers
Business
And the opposition.
