Spitfires still in their packing cases !

surly if the damp and salts have found there way in they may be in a unusable state

i off course hope they are perfect :D

They would have been covered in a thick greasy sticky treacle like substance, when its cleaned off they will be in "as new" condition.

i do hope so as the thought off "brand new" ww2 plane is fantastic or the though off a perfectly serviceable flying spitfire on its 100 birthday :D

I like your optimism big-all but i doubt these will be ready to fly straight out the box, they'll require some degree of restoration im sure as well as the obvious assembly but do agree with you, to see these fly again and to be able to hear the engines roar past is an experience not to be missed.

Of all the airshows i've been to i've never tired of that noise :D

It does say in the article, that they will have to be stripped down and re-rivetted, so they won't be in any condition to fly.

Lets hope any restoration work, if needed, will be to the original spec rather than using modern methods such as welding or carbon fibre replacements.
It would be a shame to see a 'patch-up' job on them.

Was watching a Spitfire flying over Northwich today when in work.

We where talking about the Spitfires that had been found, went outside 30 mins later and there was one performing a display, amazing!
