Hi Guys

First time on here I’ve got a question for all you kitchen fitters.

We’ve completely renovated our house and we’re just having our kitchen fitted. The quartz splash back has been fitted today and I’m not happy with the fact that there has been a kitchen colour trim fitted on the edges of the splash back. I’m a sparky so don’t know a great deal about kitchens but it doesn’t look right. Tell me if I’m wrong but I thought it would be fairly snug with a very thin bead of silicon around it. I can see at the top of the trim that there is roughly 8-10mm gap between where the quartz ends and the end panels start. My wife messaged the fitter and he basically said he thinks the trim looks better than silicon, but there’s no way I’m having 10mm of silicon around it. Things have kept being changed around because of the kitchen designer messing up and I think they’ve ordered the quartz to small and tried to cover it up.. I will attach a picture.

It's possible / probable that they have ordered the quartz splash-back too small. Or, there may be a reason. Have you asked the designer / supplier, not the fitter? There may be a reason such as this was a cut they had available and to have another specially made / cut may cost twice the amount (to you).
Yes, the trim may not have been your first choice but as you say, to have a massive bead of silicone would look worse.
You may be peeved about it today but tbh, after a few months you'll have forgotten about it.

Not a kitchen fitter but personally I could live with that trim but would be more concerned that there does not appear to be any sealing done around the worktop where it meets the splash back and the side walls.

Thanks guys

I understand what your saying regarding the trim.

As for the sealing that’s happening today.

The kitchen designer has lied to us the whole time. Long story short we’ve literally been without a working kitchen for 3 months. He’s lied about everything, we ordered a very specific door/brand when it arrived and was fitted it turned out that he’d gone to another (cheaper company and had some different ones colour matched that looked nothing like the ones we picked. So then they’ve all had to be reordered on a month lead time. Then it came to light it was measured designed wrong which we were never told about when it arrived it wasn’t symmetrical and he’d changed it without out consulting us. We had to compromise on a few things including having to move an existing radiator as one of the doors now won’t open fully to allow the sliding parts out. And have smaller units to squeeze it in. There are various other not small problems. Me and my wife are very reasonable people I’m in the trade so I understand sometimes you have to compromise etc but it’s been one thing after another and I get the feeling because of the changes etc this quartz has been messed up now. But I think they think (which is partly right) we’ll just accept anything now to get it finished. So they just palm you off, I can’t find one single example where they use a trim around the splash back, or in the showroom we went and looked in before buying so that’s my concern. Rant over Mic-Drop

i would not accept , sounds like the issue is the designer not the fitter
how much is outstanding , refuse to pay until put right , that should focus the mind a bit - hopefully a considerable amount is still owed
is the fitter subcontract or part of the design team ?
Not difficult to get the correct size , i have done this with splash backs and also glass a few times
Whats going to cover the gap at the TOP
