My 7 y/o dell Inspiron is Sata2 - Samsung SSD working fine - if trim is not supported, don't worry, Samsung have a useful piece of software (Samsung Magician) which is pretty good.

I found this after noting my old Dell does not have a direct bios ACHI mode, only ATA or Raid... Did the single drive raid setup, according to the dslreports guy 'koitsu' it has a built in ACHI mode, with some downsides ???

The first attempt I saw was poorly done, this is better, there may be others.
Don't be lulled into youthful flippancy - do use 'Magician' it contains some helpful stuff.
