Met a neighbour on holiday and was able to tell him that back home the temperature was due to fall to -10 to -12 and that we hadn’t left our heating on at a high enough temperature. He hadn’t either but immediately took out his phone and reset his boiler. I would like that facility but haven’t a clue where to begin so need some advice please.

You'd normally have a frost stat installed so that it prevents the pipework from freezing.
Thanks for the replies guys, but I’ve just found out that the firm that installed our new boiler 4 years ago, (a Which? trusted trader), is due in 2 weeks for the annual service and is happy to provide information and quotes on Hive and other similar products.

Never turn your heating OFF if you go away in the winter. Just turn down the room stat to 5-9 degrees then you 'll be ok
