You would need to either clad the steelwork in plasterboard or paint it with fireproof paint
Plans drawn by hand, and in imperial; not a hi-vis or hard hat on site; much work non-mechanized, and still they managed 250 - 300,000 dwellings per year. Not steel framed, but very interesting all the same:
Look at the geezer carrying roof tiles up a ladder on his head, no hands!
Surely steel is almost as sturdy as brick or stone in a fire ?

No way, once it starts to buckle with heat the strength is lost (Which is why steels are protected by fire barriers). Also, steel rusts when rain water gets in..

Apparently jet fuel will melt steel beams.

I don't know about that.
I was. I was referring an often quoted conspiracy theory that burning jet fuel won't melt steel beams, which it won't per se. However it will obviously weaken them enough to bend.I think he is sardonically referring to the twin towers (while whistling).Apparently jet fuel will melt steel beams.

Exactly. It's one of the more ridiculous aspects of the conspiracy theory (which in itself is pretty ridiculous)Or jet fuel will help start other things burning, which will themselves be hot enough to cause steel to buckle.
