J Bonding, Here is one for you.

Following your earlier suggestion regarding dabbing instead of rendering internal walls, i thought i would give it a go.

Firstly, Do you apply adhesive to wall or board.
Second, how close together do you place the adhesive
thirdly, should the wall sound hollow in places once dried ?

Thanks

Mick

apply it to the wall, its solid dabs along the top, bottom,up either side and down the middle. They dont have to be solid dabs its upto yourself but its the proper way especially around gas pipes and sockets. The wall will sound hollow in places but so does a stud wall.

Hi JB

So when you say "SOLID" do you mean a full line ? as in continuous the full length?

Thanks,

Mick

then don`t fall against it...it`ll be allright

I thought because the term was dot and dab, that you simply dotted the rear of the board. I placed apple sized dollops up the edges and then every 4" or so towards the middle.

If anything, there is probably more than on them than the correct way.

Sounds silly BUT i found it easier to put the spots on the board ? at least i then know it is on the edges. So whats the easiest way to get it onto the wall ? Just with agauging trowel or something simular

Thanks Legs for the link. Interesting reading

Cut all your boards first. Have them all in place against the wall and marked with an offcut of board at all edges. Then you know exactly where each board starts and finishes. Just use the edge of your trowell(right hand side) to put a smidge on the wall then with the other side of the trowell a little more on the same dab so as to raise a peak of adhesive... Do this for each and every dab....hard to explain!!
Window reveals or pillars cut the board a little oversize then trim back with a stanley knife when dry.

Cheers for that legs,

I just had a surf around that link you sent me and i noticed a tutorial pdf that i have just read. Explains all about dabbing.

I was going to render the inside of the new extension once the roof is on but i think i will now dry line it.

While i was doing my friends i had to put a piece in at the top. His ceillings were about 5" taller than the boards, Is it correct to piece at the top?

Mick

Not uncommon, many ceilings over here are 8ft minimum from finished floor level and often more.

Finally Legs,

How do you stick plaster board to a catnick lintel ? the window built in the extension has a steel lintel and im unsure how do do that bit ?

Cheers,

Mick.

If I recall the catnics are not completely smooth faced so you will have something of a key, not that you will really need it, dry line will adhere to almost anything, if it will stick to ceramic tiles a catnic will not be a bother.

Just a quick one to say thanks to both JBonding and legs for all their help.. How easy is was to skim plasterboard, i was amazed.

thanks to both,

It must be the christmas spirit, i cant beleive you have both posted in the same thread and managed not to knock each other :D

Merry crimbo both of you

Mick
