Get brickes done.

UK relaxes visa rules for foreign builders amid Brexit shortages

Bricklayers and other construction jobs added to list alongside care workers and engineers

Bricklayers, plasterers and other construction jobs have been added to the government’s “shortage occupation list”, making it easier for foreign builders to come to Britain amid labour shortages partly caused by Brexit.

The UK government has relaxed visa restrictions for a number of sectors that face severe worker shortages, and has added bricklayers and masons; roofers, roof tilers and slaters; carpenters and joiners; plasterers and other construction workers to the list. Fishing jobs have also been added to the list.

The Home Office said that this would “aid the delivery of key national infrastructure and stimulate growth for related industries”.

Get Brickies done!!!!!

I thought Brexit was about training and developing our brickies and builders.

Yet the Brexit loons on here are still living in denial.

"Applicants need a sponsored job offer from an employer and must meet English language requirements".

Seems fair enough. No non-english speaking people turning up at our borders with a trowel and a bit of string in their hands and no definite job to go to saying through an interpreter "I have come to lay bricks" and being automatically allowed in.

No, it was about the UK deciding what and how many workers we allowed in based on our needs and requirements and not the rules of the EU. No problem with reciprocity either.

And a lowered salary job to go with it too is OK.

Talking about keeping our wages down. This is worse

Those working in a shortage occupation can be paid 80% of the job’s going rate and still get a skilled worker visa, and benefit from a lower application fee. Applicants need a sponsored job offer from an employer and must meet English language requirements.

Who determines our needs and requirements?

The whole world is feeling the pinch. Its got nothing to do with brexit!

It's just made worse with Brexit.

List the benefits and maaaaaaaaaaaaaasive trade deals will ya.

If you want to know that, I’d suggest you try reading the article you linked to.
Beautiful so the Government decides on what is and is not an industry lacking skilled workers - no free market then.

Well done.

Brexxers really are the easiest marks on the planet.

Woof Woof.

Yep. You seem surprised. It’s the same group of people that decide on what tax you pay, what benefits you get, what education you get, what healthcare you get, what laws you must obey etc etc. Basically the party that the electorate decide to put in power. Surely you know how all that works by now or are you genuinely that thick?

So finally you admit the Government is in charge and has failed miserably.

Well done we got there in the end.

Please don't now come up with the excuse it's lefty lawyers stopping the Government.

The government of the day has always had that power and if you think it will be different under any other political party, dream on.

"Applicants need a sponsored job offer from an employer and must meet English language requirements". It may stop this sort of thing
