1. do you just use the long stopcock key and turn the handle clockwise to shut the water off, and do you turn it until it is fully down like the stopcock handle in the property?
2. When you open the stopcock in the street do you open it all the way and then back half a turn like you would a normal stopcock?

Be very careful if it is an "Atplas" meter box (round lid, semi-oval chamber, long black removable tee handle alongside the meter). These need only be finger tight, if you screw them down too much they will snap - leaving you with a bill for repair.
