Sorry my grammar wewnt a little off...

I was just thinking back to a rather pedantic customer who insisted on counting the number of turns his stop-cock was set to. I changed it for a lever valve in the end 'cos he was doiing my head in. Perhaps I should have used a mini valve to shut him up. :D

Is it just me, or does "mini valve" sound vaguely pornographic? :D

It`s just you. You need to get out more. ;) I have some jazz mags if you need a ham shank. ( I borrowed them from a friend)

in 1975.  I would have returned them earlier but he appears to have died.

Are you sure? I've never seen a 1/4 turn water company service valve than doesn't stop when it's shut.

All of our old ones (on lead or copper services) will turn infinitely.

I need to turn the stopcock off outside my house. It's a new(ish) house so it only affects my property.
My questions are:
1. do you just use the long stopcock key and turn the handle clockwise to shut the water off, and do you turn it until it is fully down like the stopcock handle in the property?
2. When you open the stopcock in the street do you open it all the way and then back half a turn like you would a normal stopcock?

thanks

I'm assuming that with it being a newish property it is on a meter? Be very careful if it is an "Atplas" meter box (round lid, semi-oval chamber, long black removable tee handle alongside the meter). These need only be finger tight, if you screw them down too much they will snap - leaving you with a bill for repair.

yes you are right.. the long black T handle is there... is it best to turn it gently by hand?
