Strange noise from 2011 VW polo

My own technique for testing wheel bearings......
With the front of the car in the air and the strut dangling, allow the wheel to spin in first gear, turning the wheel from lock to lock.
Feeling the bottom of the strut you can detect the grinding sensation and rumble - when there is no evident play when checking the bearing in the usual way.
John :)

They still haven't found the problem yet . They've told me to book it in next week and they will investigate further.
I made a recording of the noise from my foot-well I'll attach it

I’d change mechanics, they’ve changed your brakes and had your car overnight and still don’t know. They seem to guess about everything.

Does sound like the brake deflection for rain though.

It was a wheel bearing. Apparently it was only gone on one part if that makes any sense

Thanks for the update!
A wheel bearing is actually two bearings in the same housing, if you get my drift....Dealing with thrust forces etc.
That’s what the garage probably meant.
John

Well after 3 months of noise free motoring my car has developed a squeaky brake noise . The strange thing is the squeaking only happens after around 5 minutes of driving and it squeaks mostly when I turn right. Any ideas before I head to the garage ( so I can point him in the right direction ).
Thanks David

I would:
Remove the brake pads, wire brush clean or replace if necessary
Ensure the caliper can slide on its pins, and the piston can be pushed back in easily;
Check the discs ( both sides) for glazing or rust - especially the inside which cannot be seen;
Clean out and/or file the caliper fixing bracket, lubricate the lands and replace.
John

I'll give that a go but surely it shouldn't need it yet considering the pads and disks are only 3 months old.
Thanks

It certainly shouldn't but do make sure that the piston is free to slide back into the caliper, and the 'lands' - the part of the caliper bracket that the pads sit on - are rust free.
At least, it rules the brakes out of the equation!
John :)

A good test when the brakes are squealing when you are driving along......
Gently press the brake pedal and the squeal will disappear.
John :)

Hi John I did gently press the brake and the squeaking noise stopped. Does this mean it's definitely brakes related?
