Yes.I am wondering if I should just unplug
Another load of expensive nothing. The report mentioned an old chemical DPC
I recall only too clearly the money changing hands to chase out a course of mortar and slide old roof slates into place then hide the gaps with a smear of mortar easch side... Then at the next house change the Mortgage company would insist on a new survey and hence chemical injection.... Oh and sadly the salt would still come through the new plaster.Hah . Electro osmosis damp
Proof system! Was fairly popular back in my early days as a cheap form of damp proofing and was supposed to be left permanently on and intact.
The basic idea was that electrolysis was natural in the flow of electrons in a damp wall and you reversed the polarity therefore the direction of flow to combat the damp .
Using earth for one pole of the electrode then the other electrode was a fine conductive wire buried in the wall at a higher level and the constant voltage between wall and floor caused a long slow
Migration of natural salts in the wall to travel down not up.
The voltage was very low , hence safe and the current was very low too and must be left on at all times and unbroken.
So much for the science (or pseudo-science). A lot of people were convinced that it worked and some firms made a lot of money by providing it.
Was it “snake oil”? I have no actual evidence that it was not but you know what people can be like! Convinced it must work then everything proved that it did work and all the evidence that it does not work was discounted , just like religion and politics and a host of other human beliefs.
Look at all of the examples of perpetual motion on YouTube etc and you will find good examples of snake oil beliefs.
Snake oil backed by pseudo science is a very strong force in the human mind
What chance has objective truth seeking got?
So does it work?
Everyone has their own answer![]()
We do know that! Was it “snake oil”? I have no actual evidence that it was not but you know what people can be like! ...
