Hi - I live in a ground floor Victorian masionette. We've got wooden floors with the usual cavity below. occassionaly by the front door I can detect an odd smell - its hard to describe - its kind of like Copydex glue, or the smell of burnt fish on a frying pan. Its not always there, and it doesn't seem to be just in hot weather....

Any thoughts on what this could be?!

Might be an overheating plastic electrical fitting. Is the fusebox near there, or a socket? Old brown plastic in particular smells fishy when hot.

Ha ha - not a rag and bone man...!

Someone else suggested electrics - but I've also smelt it coming back from a couple of days away when nothing has been switched on. The main fusebox smells fine.....

Have you got any power sockets nearby? It may be that a joist has rubbed through the insulation or there is a loose terminal in the socket plate

I think I'm going to need to lift some boards! God knows what I'll find!

Fishy :?: ................Rubbery :?: (copydex).........old ..............used ........***dom

I can just visualise you now...on your hands & knees sniffing something electrical....

it's now Friday! Isn't it a bit strange that we haven't heard from RUPE4321 for a while? Has he fallen in do you think?
