Stripping skirting board : should I give up?

I can only say that in my experience it is better than Nitromors, so it would be interesting to know what you find it is not so good on. I'm only an amateur, so I've not used it on much. As I indicated earlier, Eco Solutions is slower, but if left overnight then it does a better job (in my limited experience), probably because as you indicate it does not dry so fast, so it can carry on acting for longer. In fact it can leave the wood damp, and I assume the wood should be left to dry out. Pros might not like it because it is slow, and the wood possibly needs to dry out. So if you are a pro decorator in a hurry, it might well be rubbish. But for home use, it's good.

Shall we now all have a big argument about which scrapers are best, and which plaster filler to use? I like Gyproc Easi-fill. Or am I just pushing a product? :D

nail on head about pro use and speed for sure and Eco is normally a terrible product to use on fine furniture as in the restoration game but of course this doesnt make it a rubbish product per se. For home fitting use doors skirts etc, aside from health stuff, eco stays wet as you say over night this means you can give one thick coat and leave it unlike nitromores typoe where by time you got to the end of the skirting, its dried out so you can only do small sections at a time. The main thing you have to watch with eco is discolouration to the wood. The worst part of using it is its slimy and dosnt evapourate as you rub it off. Also cos water based used on oak with wire wool leaves black staining but of course you can remove this with oxalic acid afterwards.

I suspect the main reason people ahev probs with this stuff is 1) not leaving it on long enough 2) taking the finish off with wire wool too soon (should be removed by scraper as much as possible) obviously stripping mouldings is more tricky but patience is the key :)

It's rubbish. Plain and simple. If you are over-painting then sand it back using the old surface as a primer. If you are going for natural wood - then use Niitromorse. What is the supposed active ingredient anyway?

yes we've already established the first bit. havnt got a clue whats in it apart from the fact its prob alkaline based.

btw I've mailed the mods/ admin on here with my landline phone number inviting them to phone me to ascertain that I'm not a bloody spammer - I doubt they will as its obvious to anyone reading this thread and my posting history that I'm a genuine contributor who just posts to help others (and get advice for myself) but please feel free to keep levelling the unfounded accusation

the mods might instead like to google my phone number which will lead them to see who I am and what I'm about but please if you are reading this dont put info in this thread. A simple "we've had a look at Matz and are happy hes not spamming ecoshit" would be fair enough given the circumstances :) It'll shut foureyes up if nothing else ;)

Many people have already said to sand rather than strip when practical. Why do you keep on repeating that?

You keep repeating the same old uninformative "it's rubbish" rather like a child having a tamtrum when someone says something it does not like. Your post could have been informative if you had stated what you tried it on, and when you tried it. That way we might learn that it does not work on certain finishes, if that is indeed the case. Assuming of course that you have used it. The low content level and high abuse level of your posts does lead me to question if you have used it.

I do not recommend it for paint on plaster, but then again I suspect no paint stripper is good for paint on plaster.

It's rubbish. Compared to Nitromorse it's just plain useless. We all know that - so why are you trying to pretend otherwise?

he's made my week :D damn this laptop in the corner - you just cant -help looking at whats come next.

anyway price of 5L eco - I've shaved as much as I can off it and can do it for Joe for £40.00 :) I assume we have been reported for spamming but so far no banning, no message, no phone call and doesnt seem like they've googled my phone number either so no interest, rightfully so.....

I did a Google and quite a lot of people like Eco Solutions and quite a few hate it. I suspect as you say that many people do not leave it on long enough. I found that after a few hours it seems to do nothing, but next day the paint surface will have lifted.

It'll happen. It always does.

what does

anyway in reply to Turkeys - prob worthing noting that eco soloutions is a brand of eco paint stripper in the same way as Nitromores is a brand of methylene chloride based paint stripper and Nitromores is by far not the best of that bunch. I havnt used eco soloutions but am well aware of them - they were the forerunners of this stuff in the UK I believe. The product I use is made by the people in Staffs and is comparable in price to Nitromores type products ie around £22 per 5 litres. Of course if I were a spammer I'd have link dropped by now

Eco solutions is nowhere near as effective as Nitromorse. It;s just playing at marketing a 'green' solution. Lot of rubbish. Find a pro decorator to say otherwise. Now go away and push your wares elsewhere. You are nothing but a spammer.

my last word on this aspect of the thread - see 9th post above this one - mods are happy I'm not spamming, why can't you be?

Ok then let's agree that Eco Solutions is an inferior product to Nitromorse.
