Sub contracting

We chose a company based on local reputation and in house knowledge and experience. The guy who turned up says he does them all and says all work done in house (they have in house electricians).
How sure are you they know what they are doing?

Having watched lots of YouTube videos by Urban Plumber and Heat Geeks, I don’t think many heat engineers in this country have the knowledge to maximise the efficiency of these systems.

Have they done full heat loss calculations?

Absolutely. Full heat loss calcs, and I've paid a visit to a previous customer to look at their install as well. We wrote off 4 or 5 other companies before going with this one, so it was really disappointing this appeared to be going a bit bendy after we thought we had made the right decision. Time will tell I guess but definitely a bit of a minefield.

I'm now being told it was all a misunderstanding and this was never going to be subcontracted out. Despite these specific words being relayed to me this morning.

I once did a quote for a new heating system but lost out to British Gas. The customer went with them because they were much bigger and thought they would provide a better service although they were almost double the price.

Imagine the look on their face when I turned up to do the work with my BG gear on. It was sub contracted to me.

Unless it is a specific term in a contract that sub contractors are not allowed, it makes no difference. Your contract is with the supplier. Nothing changes whether they use directly employed labour or sub it out. The whole of the commercial world operates on various levels of sub and sub-subcontractors. If the suppliers subbies muck up, it's still down to the supplier to sort - you have no contract with his subbies.
