Hi,
I have a UPVC window which is about 2m wide with wall hung tiles below. The inner skin is blockwork. The window rests on the wooden frame that holds the wall hung tiles. This framework is fixed to the inner skin.

I would like to remove the wall hung tiles and wooden frame to install PIR boards. I would then drill through to fix battens for the tiles/new cladding.

What would be the best thing to replace the wooden frame with under the window? Some kind of lintel? L shaped brackets coming off the inner skin?

Any other ideas? Or should I just leave the wooden framework there and insulate between it?

Thanks...

Isnt the current window resting on the wooden frame?

If the support is on the outer leaf wouldn’t insulating the cavity suffice?

You would just accept that the window needing support (eg a timber batten) overrides the desire to achieve continuous insulation. How thick is the insulation you're proposing? Won't this additional insulation layer push your tiles out beyond the face of the adjacent brick panels?

But how to do it? L brackets? Lintel?

Its a 50mm cavity (?) then brick outer skin. Plenty of room for insulation and I will go as thick as possible... but I would rather have it continuous and remove the wooden framework currently holding the tiles. I would then fix the battens through the insulation and rehang the tiles. Unless there is a better way? Maybe I should just accept that the wooden frame wont cause too much thermal loss?

When I removed it from the rear of the property I used doubled up timbers but this ended up flush with the external wall to support the wall plate for the roof and would leave no room to fit the tiles back.
