A kitchen is to have a new ceiling put in. Sounds like some sort of wood effect pvc.
What sort of distance is required from the top of the old ceiling to the bottom of the new ceiling to accomodate lights? The lighting for the kitchen will be your standard spotlights and i am concerned about clearance and heat build up.

Also, the floor in the room above is wooden. For this reason work will need to be performed from below. The intention is to crimp a joint at the ceiling rose and run of this with cable to txs etc which will be accessible. Can anyone think of any problems to be aware of?

thanks again

yeah crimps are a good diea especially if this new void is going to end up practically sealed

remember to enclose them in a chockbox though

You can make holes in the original ceiling aswell to take the lights - they need a fire hood over them then though.

If you drop the ceiling, you wouldnt need fire hoods. Check the manufacturers details on min depths required - different from fitting to fitting.
