The intermediates I remember were a bit bigger than the 1W, 2W & DP (the same size as the 2G version) and were a 2p2w switch with 6 terminals although 2terminals were blank (not drilled to receive a wire) and linked to 2 others with brass strips.
That struck me, too. If I recall correctly (from what I've read, not personal experience ), £2 would probably have been more than a week's average income in 1935 !
In the mid 60's I similarly used something like that for reversing the polarity of supply to 'surplus' ex-aircraft motors (prop pitch motors and cowl gill motors) which I used to rotate antenna (aka scaffold ) poles!
