They were passing through. The SS infestation and lawlessness meant that russia had to take control of the path. Part of the path now belongs to russia. There is current talk of russia taking odessa to complete the path to poland. If ukraine is more agreeable and lend russia the remainder of the path, perhaps russia needn't take it? Russia is going there one way or another since it is dealing with an existential threat. It's unwise to block people's attempt to survive - anything can happen.

My geography is very strong. My geography teacher liked me so much, he deliberately borrowed my text book so that he could insert the carbon copy sheet in there. It contained the exam questions he was writing out.

Poland only has part of the decapitation missile systems. Romania has some other parts. Russia gets three birds with one stone using the southern path. The third bird is transnistria. After odessa, I'd expect russia to go north to the spot that borders both poland and romania.

No need to annex Transnistria. Simply making it sharing a border with russian land would be adequate. Annexation can be reserved as an escalation step. The russians are chess players, don't you know? It's all in the moves. The remainder of the path is all within ukraine. Russia is interested in a football shaped patch of land bordering poland, slovakia, hungary, and romania. In fact russia will be getting so many birds, it's wont even be funny.

You presume incorrectly. The ukrainian army will continue to fight victoriously and win on the internet every day. They have to make it look the business to get more money from the investors.

Who said anything about attacking poland? Russia just wants to be close to the missile systems to keep an eye on things. Ukraine will not be a zombie state. It will be a brother state as it always has been. So long as it can live off of uncle sam and chums, it doesn't need to make things obvious.

I don't think you understand the strategic implications of the football russia is going after. It puts russia right in the center of the warsaw pact. Anyone who wants to renew their membership, they can, and uncle joe putin is right there in case any thug or busybody wants to barge in.
