Syphilis

Well, you certainly cannot catch it from a toilet seat.

Be that as it may, it was spread around the world by the gay community and was a gay disease. Obviously the bisexuals have taken it out of the gay sphere and it’s found its way into the hetro community.
No, it was a disease that was transmitted from chimpanzees to hunters...

Were all these hunters gay?

And it wasn't just a gay disease, it was also spread by shared needles and blood transfusions and unknown (at the time) bad medical practices that infected people of all sexual orientations...

Yet again you show us one of your many prejudices and also show us your ignorance at the same time!

spread by shared needles and blood transfusions
Spread to, not generally spread from by needles and blood transfusions. Name one famous straight person that died of it through sexual transmission and I’ll name you ten homo's that died from it.

Yet again you show us one of your many prejudices and also show us your ignorance at the same time!
how is it prejudice?

it is just a fact that HIV was spread mostly in the gay community....you only have to look at the celebs that have dies from aids like Freddy Mercury, Kenny Everitt etc

"Paul O'Grady had "nothing planned" for his death after losing most of his friends during the AIDS epidemic, leading him to question why he was "spared"."

how is it prejudice?
The claim that it is a 'gay disease' when more non gay people than gay people have died of AIDS?

The claim that 'bisexual people' were the cause of spreading it to the general population despite the evidence of other causes?

Are heterosexuals immune from Aids?

I seem to recall that AIDS was at times referred to by certain anti gay people as 'Ar*e Injected Death'...

It didn't exactly turn out that way did it, but the prejudice sadly still remains!

Based on the wrong information...

Broken Britain Brexit...

Spot the Br's?

How did you vote, and did you get your choice wrong based on the wrong information?

Just saying but you might be barking up the wrong tree...

Oh but that's right...

Barking is in Essex. As in barking mad referring to someone with a prejudice! ;)

Here's some data:
But assumptions from this data needs to be done with care.
The % figures are not percentage of those populations that have died from HIV out of all deaths from HIV.
They are for comparison with the average percentage of the total population that are affected.
I.e. average of general population affected = 0.7%
Whereas average of sex workers population affected = 2.5%
They are just the key populations mentioned. There might be others worth considering.

Also it doesn't take any account of social influences, e.g prejudice, non-disclosed data, available advice, available condoms, etc.

Key Populations

  • Globally, median HIV prevalence among the adult population (ages 15-49) was 0.7%. However median prevalence was higher among key populations
    • 2.5% among sex workers
    • 7.7% among gay men and other men who have sex with men
    • 5.0% among people who inject drugs
    • 10.3% among transgender persons
    • 1.4% among people in prisons.

There is another fact dheet showing global and regional distribution of cases and treatment.

Here's a more up-to-date fact sheet.

That post reminded me of Ted Rogers summing up the clues on 321.
