Whats the opinions of the new T5 fittings that are about now?
I ask because I was in my local shop the other day. A few months back they had all their T8 twin 5ft strips (which were perfectly serviceable, and HF electronic) replaced with T5 twin 5ft strips, for the sake of the meagre energy saving of a few watts per lamp.
I noticed the other day that all the tubes were badly blackened at their ends, after such short time, though all were lit. Is this common? They are only started once a day and run for 16 hours.
I also think T5 lamps look rubbish without a reflector around them. These bare twin fittings, the lamps are too close together, they look daft (and the blackened ends stick out like a sore thumb). IMO, the light is too intense for there not to be a reflector or diffuser. T8s give a softer glow.
Anyone fitted any? Any preferences?
