Seems to me like you did not get stung though:

Calibrated and a re-registered as not stolen.
All for a fee of calibration.

Just thought I'd mention in view of all the negative responses, that I've bought many items of test equipment along with other tools off ebay and I've had no issue any more serious than a missing crocodile clip!.

You can usually get a good enough feel for it from the auction and reading their feedback and previously sold items. If someone is shifting a lot of electonic items, tv and video recorders and then started selling test equipment then you could be looking at grey market stuff, etc. If you look at their history and you see they've been buying things like obsolete stablok breakers then its a good chance they are a sparks who has upgraded his equipment/or is now using the equipment provided by an employer and now has his old equipment gathering dust on a shelf etc (which he'll often make reference to in the auction)

Its just a case of being careful.

FWIW, my experiences are the same. I've bought something approaching 600 items (from trivial to pretty expensive) on eBay and, with due exercise of caution and common sense, have had incredibly few problems or disappointments. A tiny handful of items have failed to arrive, but I've always got rapid and full refunds.

In context, my Fluke MFT was bought on eBay some 4-5 years ago, and has given no trouble at all.

Kind Regards, John.

I fail to understand why a MFT, which is so integral to my day to day work, would be chosen to buy second hand. But saying that, i have just purchased a second hand scudo.

In some senses, I agree - although if it works, and if it's calibrated, why not? I know people running businesses which involve very expensive bits of kit which they simply could not afford to buy new.

Bear in mind that this is a 'DIY forum' so it is by no means a foregone conclusion that every person here who owns an MFT is using it for their 'day to day work'. Indeed, if you need proof, I'm one of those 'exceptions'!

Kind Regards, John.

Prenticeboy, i understand your views on this, but it may not always be the case for others. We viewed this seller as being legit as he had sold a fair few of these items thought his time on ebay. we also ran the risk of potentially getting done for handling of stolen goods. i thought it would be a fair usefull warning is all.

unfortunatly i have posted the link on here before but it was removed.
