I only met him in the 1960's when I was a choirboy and he conducted a massive televised wedding near my home. Our choir was chosen to sing, and the whole period of rehearsals and ceremony was steered by this really nice, calm, sensible guy, who, though a star in his own right, took time to talk to and involve himself with us all.
Certainly it was to our benefit to have met him, let alone the five shillings we got for the service.
