The hot weather leads to a shortage

Keep badgering them for the refund. Remember they will be getting interest on that money and everybody elses £769's.

Nevertheless, if they give a delivery date and it fails to materialise, you have the right to compensation.

Honestly. It was the worse experience of any purchase I have ever made. And, it wasn't due to the incompetence of just one or two people either, the whole thing was a farce. JL never even replied to my letter of complaint. And, they had the money up front. We were five weeks without a fridge freezer. I ended up taking a total of three days off work and probably a total of 4 hours of phone calls sometimes hanging on for 25 mins just to be cut off.

Stellisons said 8am Saturday and there it was at 8am.

I retract the bit that they did not reply to my complaint. I have just recalled that they did and they sent a small hamper as compensation. Fairs fair.

Still wouldn't order from them again though. aj's problem has confirmed that for me.

I answered a phonecall from a young lady that works for a posh london shop this afternoon. The lady asked for my wife.............................obviously :D I told her my wife would not be home until after 6pm and asked if I could help. She said she was phoning to say the shortbread biscuits my wife had ordered were no longer being stocked and could they send her an alternative. I haven't got a clue how much the biscuits were but compared to john lewis the customer service was priceless.

I'd just like to chip in and say that we use John Lewis quite a lot and have never had a problem.

Better still, they price match and often offer a longer guarantee than others.

They are usually at or near the top of Which? magazine's comparison surveys.

John Lewis are the best. If we want it and they sell it then we wouldn't even bother looking anywhere else (well apart from price match of course :) )

Why do people buy American style fridges in British waters defies logic! :p

That fridge will have to come all the way from China to America and then get dropped off at Dover!

The same people have a 6' x 4' flat screen tele (in a tiny room), name their children Tyler, Jordan, Connor, Chantelle, Britney, Courtney and have ridiculous tattoos and hideous tramp stamps.

Quite agree JBR that JL are normally excellent (having said that, I do feel that their staff are not quite as good as they used to be). When we initially started looking at the fridges in the Bluewater branch, a member of staff in the white goods department asked us if we needed help. We said we had some questions about the fridge freezer. She said she would have to go and get someone else as she knew nothing about them?????

Maybe the problem is limited to buying white goods - It seems to be more with the delivery side of things.

Their staff are trained to be expert in one particular department, although I'm sure they move them around from time to time. Personally, I'd rather someone goes to fetch a colleague who knows what they're talking about, than tries to talk out of their backside... like they do at PC World!
