Well those of us living in this godforsaken part of the world run by fecking idiots, (only here because all my family are here) can only crawl along like little old ladies in our cars from today. The only consolation I have if I move yet again, which is on the cards, is that when the clown starmer gets in which I am 99% sure he will, the idiocy will spread far and wide around the rest of the country. Those of you living in or around London already have a taste of the chaos to come.

The only way to effect change is to complain: protest long and loud.

If enough people complain, the authorities will back down.

For those who don't speak grumpy old man.

20mph is now the default in built up areas.
I guessed!

But TBF, think about your driving in all 30mph zones overall. How much of it are you covering at a maximum of 20mph already? Either because of hazards or because the vehicle(s) in front of you are travelling 20 or below?

I cannot see the problem....

We've had a 20 limit in the entire village, with the exceptions of the through roads which bypass the village - for several years, and it works rather well. It's 2/3rds of the previous 30 limit, so hardly takes much longer to drive the half miles in or out of the place. Benefits are - it can be much less noisy for residents, and traffic is much less intimidating.

As said - it's not all roads, only those which are heavily built up/residential.

Half my town is a 20mph limit has been for about 15 years never heard of anyone getting done for doing upto 30 . Despite the other 30 mph half of town having
various mobile speed checks Each week there is never any in the 20 zone.

Ealing (west london) has had 20mph for quite a while. My bus on the Argyle Road often does 30mph. Previously parts of the road had an archaic limit of 38 mph but the public were never told about it. At least, that was what a mate of mine was told by the police. He had complained about the speed that some drivers travelled at. They did spend a few hours with a handheld speed monitor though.

I do not drive but do not object to 20 mile an hour limits on residential roads, it does strike me as silly on all roads though.

Yes, why?
Speed limits are not enforceable for bicycles. The limits apply to motorised vehicles.
Separate bylaws may be in place for cyclists in some areas.
A cyclist won't be prosecuted for a speeding offence, but they can be prosecuted for “cycling furiously” or “wanton and furious cycling".

As for the 20mph limit, I went out for a drive yesterday, many of the new signs were uncovered. It was a pleasently chilled drive. I was tailgated by a pimped out van at one point, who was trying to run me off the road, but then we came to some speed bumps - my car went over them beautifully at 20, he had to crawl over them at 5 to avoid losing his body kit!
Left him miles behind! :)

No, only applicable to motor vehicles.
I was under the impression they were regulated by by-laws, but apparently not.

Ebikes are subject to the speed limits, and I guess other motorised forms of transport are too.
